Development / Communications Associate

Reports to: Director of Development and Communications

Located in Albany, New York; must live in NYS

Full-time, Min 35hr/ week, with occasional work requirements outside of normal work hours

Salary: $42,000 – $67,500, DOE, plus generous benefits

 

Overview

The Legal Aid Society of Northeastern New York, a nonprofit civil legal services program, is seeking a Development / Communications Associate. Legal Aid’s mission is to fight for fairness, dignity, and justice for those living in poverty and for a society that is inclusive and equitable for all. We transform lives, build community, and empower people by using the law to address individual and systemic wrongs and inequities. Our service area spans sixteen counties, in upstate New York, encompassing six regional offices. This position can be based out of our Albany office. Qualifications

  • BA in communications, marketing, or development or equivalent professional experience;
  • Excellent organizational and communications skills including attention to detail and ability to multi-task; excellent writing skills essential.
  • Experience working with at least one Donor Management system, such as NEON.
  • Familiarity with Excel, Outlook and Word.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • BA in communications, marketing, or development and at least 3 year’s relevant professional experience;
  • Proficient in Adobe (inDesign)
  • Expert proficiency with Excel, Outlook and Word.

 

Development:

  • Manage the Development Database, including generating standard and nonstandard reports and ensuring the quality and accuracy of information entered into the system.
  • Assist with planning and coordination of fundraising and outreach events and activities.
  • Assist with donor stewardship and cultivation development strategies and activities including regular acknowledgments.
  • Manage small donor portfolio and conduct donor research.
  • Assemble grants attachments and data.
  • Assist with mail and on-line appeals and other donor communications; and
  • Research relevant foundations, law firms, corporations and individuals for giving potential as well as to follow philanthropic trends.

 

Donor Communications:

  • Write personalized donor acknowledgement letters and follow up on pledges.
  • Assist with implementation of Communications plan re: Constant Contact, social media, Email and Letter merges; research and remain current on relevant emerging social media tools and crowd funding opportunities.
  • Assist in drafting press releases.
  • Work with Webmaster to make sure the website is current and web functionality projects are implemented.
  • Manage print jobs and publication timelines.
  • Daily responsibility for content and graphic creation on social media platforms including Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Instagram.
  • Understanding of donor cultivation, solicitation and stewardship concepts and procedures.

 

Work Environment

This position operates in a professional law office environment and occasionally may require the carrying of items of up to 20 pounds. This role requires the use of standard office equipment and software and remote videoconferencing platforms.
