picturingJUSTICE Entry Form

Thank you for your interest in submitting an entry for the Legal Aid Society of Northeastern New York (LASNNY) upcoming picturingJUSTICE exhibition.

We are looking for a photograph (or series of 2-3 photos) that represent what justice means to the you. The photograph must be accompanied by a strong artist’s statement with a focus on the themes of housing, racial justice, poverty, fair housing, domestic violence, education, food insecurity, LGBTQ+, family, and/or other civil legal issues.

Ten artists will be selected for this exhibition and will receive a $250 stipend. The photograph may be from the artist’s existing portfolio or a new image that is taken specifically for this exhibit. Images should be submitted digitally by May 19th and final selections and notifications will be made by June 1st. The opening reception for the exhibition is June 14th.

“picturingJUSTICE seeks to connect our legal work to the people and communities we serve and to open conversations about justice,” said LASNNY Executive Director, Nic Rangel. “We are excited to see what creative interpretations the artists in our region will come up with for this exhibition.”

Artists will also have the opportunity to be a part of one of four artist talks with community leaders and legal aid advocates about the issues presented in the photographs. Rangel added, “It is our hope that through the photographer’s lens, we can open up an important community conversation around civil rights, racial justice, and how we can tackle these issues together.”
